The Contractors

The Reasoning Behind the Name
So, how did we ever come up with the name, "The Contractors?" Well, it would seem obvious and I guess your guess would be right. John is a painter, Dwayne has his own seafood business, Joey has his own barbershop, Gregg is a town worker who also maintains the website and does video editing p/t. Maribeth works in her husbands business keeping the books and so on. So for the most part, we primarily have 2 "contractors" now. In the recent past we had 3. Our old drummer Pete worked as a landscaper p/t. When the band originally formed we still had 3 but for a short time 4. We had Mike "porkchop" on the guitar and he was an electrical contractor and he played with Dwayne when he joined for a short stint. So there you have it.

The Birth of the Name
The Contractors name was on the burner for quite a while. We tried "Taboo" for a very short time. That didn't last long at all. We threw around, "Pete's Basement" because that's where we practiced for years. I believe we also had the thought of "Johnny Gin and the Tonics" because John loves his gin and tonic. As you can see, we had some working possibilities d:-{o

Well, one night at practice after debating names for weeks, John said, "I've had it" for the most part. "Let's be, 'The Contractors'." Several of us are contractors and the rest of us are either contracted out to someone else for some kind of work or have their own businesses. So, that's what we have been calling ourselves ever since. When "Papa John" makes up his mind, people listen! At least we usually do...

What about that logo? (from Gregg himself)
The logo was an interesting discovery. I say discovery because I basically found its components by accident. I asked myself, "When you think of a contractor what do you think of?" What can you use to make a sign or symbol? After searching the pc for a while I came across some clip art. I checked out the music category and that's where it all started. I saw a clipart picture of a record. I thought, "that could be used as an 'O' in cOntractOrs." I didn't like it in both places. It wasn't different enough so I just used it at the end. Now I was on a quest to find the other "O" but it had to be something to do with a contractor or construction. After Googling for a while I came across an interesting figure-. After several looks I started seeing an "A". Using a graphics program I inserted the "O" and "A" and thought it looked good. So I went for the other "O" and found this little piece. Next was to find a workable font that isn't used everyday which I found. Using my graphics program I played with it and put it all together to get the final result. Simple but unique to us. At least we think so. Throughout the pages you will see a construction bar and some other tidbits. All fitting our theme and describing who we are. And that's the story!

The ^SubContractors

Who are they? Where did they come from?
They have always been there or we wouldn't be! d8-{o-[ On a brisk January day(Wednesday the 18th to be exact)in 2007 Gregg was at work thinking about all the fans we have since the band started. People who come to so many of our gigs and support us faithfully. They should have a special place in cyberspace that is dedicated just to them. A place where they can interact if they want and see photos or make comments. Well, Greggs thinking was what do so many contractors do with jobs they get? They subcontract them out. They can't do it all themselves so they give some of the work to the subcontractor who takes care of a certain aspect of the job. Well, that seemed to fit perfectly. "We bring the party and they make it" became their personal slogan because it fits perfectly! He brought it to everyone in the band who agreed and that was the birth of the .

What about that logo?(from Gregg himself)
It's all the same as above for The Contractors logo except I wanted to be different yet staying true to our main logo and being very simple. Well, you can't make it much simpler. The red, "^Sub" that lays atop the regular logo says it all. We are one yet only different in our functions. "We bring the party and they make it" all comes together. In other words, they ARE the party...

The Webmaster(from Gregg himself)
Many webmasters, from what I understand anyway, place a mark or logo somewhere on a website that is uniquely him/her. I have my own. I didn't plan on making one but it just happened. It's real simple and you will see it here and there throughout the site. d8-{D or d8-{)-[

So what does it mean?
Well, if you have been out to see us or know me at all-this is me... The baseball hat, mustache and ridiculous smile. The only thing missing: the glasses which I kind of represent with the 8... I wear sunglasses a lot! d8-{D
